About Level of Need

Children who are in foster care and seeking to be adopted have typically been removed from their homes due to abuse, neglect or other family challenges. For some children, exposure to childhood traumatic stress can lead to unique needs that require adoptive families who are able and willing to support those needs.

For the purpose of a user-friendly search experience, we choose one overall level of need per child. The rating can refer to physical, emotional, developmental or learning needs. We try to provide more information in the child’s profile, although specifics are not always posted online. If you become serious about adopting a particular child, KVC will provide full disclosure of all available information about the child’s background, experiences and needs. We are passionate about matching the best possible family with each unique child, and work hard to inform, educate and support families so that each adoption truly results in a “forever family.”
